About Me
I’m a native Japanese speaker. I completed 420 hours of Japanese language teacher training and also hold a Ph.D. in a biomedical field.

• いただきます (Itadakimasu)
Before eating, Japanese people often say “itadakimasu” The word comes from a humble form of the verb “to receive” Today, it is commonly used before a meal to express appreciation for the food and those involved in preparing it. There is no exact English equivalent.• おつかれさま (Otsukaresama)
Japanese people often say “otsukaresama” to coworkers, friends, or teammates after work or an activity. It literally relates to being tired, but is commonly used to acknowledge someone’s effort — something like “Good work!” or “Thanks for your hard work.”
